2009 marked 50 years since the Elizabeth Amateur Radio Club was formed by a handful of members back in 1959.
The club was granted the special event callsign VI50LZ for the week beginning 31st October 2009 and finishing 8th November 2009.
The club held two field days (one on each weekend) plus club members operated the callsign from their homes during the week.
Jade, VK5FXYL, and Andrew, VK5AKH, have designed the QSL card that will be sent to all contacts made using the special event callsign. Extra cards will be made available to interested parties as well.
The club held social events for both of the weekends that we had the special event callsign.
A field day / picnic was held on Sunday 1st November 2009 at Fremont Park. Members brought along radios, wire antennas, batteries, etc., and operated a field station.
A field day was held on the weekend of 7th/8th November at the helipad area of the Para Wirra National Park.
The club held an invitation only dinner to celebrate the 50th birthday on Wednesday 4th November 2009. This was held at the Central Districts Football Club instead of the normal business meeting for November.
